Ellijay Police Department

Message from the Chief

On behalf of the Ellijay Police Department, welcome.

The Ellijay Police Department remains a community-oriented police department dedicated to providing professional law enforcement services to the citizens of and to all those who visit Ellijay, Georgia. We are committed to fairness, compassion and excellence; providing police services in accordance with the law, while being sensitive to the needs of the public we serve. We are committed to community partnerships through which we can address crime and public safety concerns. As such, it is my sincere wish that you will partner with us to accomplish these same goals.

As I was appointed Chief in January of 2013 I realized that former Chief Callahan left a tremendous legacy for us to build upon, and I fully intend to honor his legacy. Through my 22 year career in law enforcement I have maintained my residence in Gilmer County as well as my close community ties to Ellijay with the hopes of someday returning to serve the community I love.

The Ellijay Police Department has a long standing order to work extremely hard toward providing 21st Century services while maintaining the "small town" feel that makes Ellijay so appealing. We will continue to do this in the future.

We remain open to you and encourage public feedback. Any unanswered questions, comments or complaints can be emailed to me directly by completing the form located at the bottom of the page. I will review every message and ensure immediate action is taken to address your concerns.

The contact numbers for the Police Department are 706-635-7430 and fax 706-635-7457

Thank you for visiting our site and thank you for your commitment to keep Ellijay a mountain experience for you and your family that you will fondly remember.

Edward D. Lacey III
Chief of Police
Ellijay Police Department
