Message from the Chief

Welcome to the McNeese State University Police Department.

The safety and well-being of the students, faculty, staff, and visitors are a priority here at McNeese State University.

On behalf of the men and women of the McNeese State University Police Department (MSU-PD), it is my pleasure to welcome you to our Web site. Here you can learn about our services, pick up some crime prevention tips and find ways you can help foster and maintain an environment that supports everyone's well-being. Although no campus is free from crime, we are committed to partnering together with you to create a safe place to live, work, study and visit. A truly safe campus can only be achieved through the cooperation of all students, faculty, staff and visitors.

McNeese State is a regional state university serving SW Louisiana. Located in the 5th largest city in Louisiana, Lake Charles is also home to the 11th largest Port in America with a dynamic and growing local economy. McNeese State educates the next generation of engineers, nurses, teachers, criminal justice professionals and has a strong fine arts program.

McNeese State University is the highest ranked Louisiana regional public university in the South in two categories according to the 2013 Best Colleges edition of U.S. News & World Report that was released Wednesday. There are 625 institutions nationwide in the regional category.

In the Best Regional Universities-South category, McNeese was the second highest rated Louisiana university in the Tier One list, with only Loyola University in New Orleans, a private institution, ranked higher.

U.S. News ranked McNeese in a tie for 43rd place in the Top Public Schools-Regional South category in the Tier One list. The only other Louisiana universities that placed in the top 49 in this category were the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Nicholls State University.

McNeese also tied for 151st place in the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs category for an ABET-accredited program where a doctorate was not offered. U.S. News rankings of undergraduate engineering programs are based on a peer assessment survey and are divided into two groups of institutions based on the highest degree offered. Ranked programs must be accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

The MSU-PD seeks to reflect the diversity, talent and dedication of our students, faculty and staff in the men and women of the MSU-PD. As a full-service law enforcement agency, we are here 24 hours-a-day throughout the year with our dispatch center and police officers. By collaborating with you and all our other partners across the campus and across the region, we address quality of life issues along with criminal activity. We look forward to continued collaboration with you throughout the year. I hope you find the information on our Web site helpful as you continue to live, work and study at McNeese State University.
