CHIEF JOHN REED previously worked for the Hennepin County Minnesota Sheriff's Office from 1969 to 1999 as a CSI and Detective. He has an A.A. in Law Enforcement, a B.A. in Criminalistics and Native American Studies, and a M.A. in Psychology and is a certified DARE Officer. Chief Reed is a consultant with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Project Alert, and a member of their TEAM ADAM.

K9 THOR, 1993-2004. K9 Thor was a graduate of the St. Paul Police Narcotics K-9 School. Thor was then certified by Midwest Canine Alternatives in narcotics detection, tracking and handler protection. He was a friend and frequent visitor to Retirement and Care Centers, senior citizens and young children. He was loved by the community and citizens he served.

NA TvSHKA, (Choctaw for woman warrior) nicknamed Tashka is a German Shepherd born November 11th, 2002. She trained and is certified as a Narcotics Detection & Tracking dog by Midwest Canine Alternatives in Long Prairie, and works with Chief Reed and the Emily Police.


The EMILY POLICE DEPARTMENT was formed in May of 2004. It serves the citizens of Emily, 36 square miles in north east Crow Wing County Minnesota. The adjacent 36 square mile Township of Little Pine also contracts for coverage. The Department provides part time coverage. The remaining coverage is provided by the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.

THE DEPARTMENT is comprised of Chief of Police John Reed, Lt. William Bernhjelm, Officers Rob Haberman, Jon Abear, Mark Taylor, Jason Rice, Sara Holmquist and K9 Na Tvshka (woman warrior).
