The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was first formed in 1973 as "The League for Animal Protection" -- a non-profit organization designed to protect the animals of Nassau County from abuse and neglect, as well as for their common welfare. Under state-mandated statute, we are recognized as a sworn law enforcement agency with the authority to enforce the New York State Agriculture & Markets Laws relating to animal cruelty. We are currently the ONLY animal protection agency in Nassau County officially-sanctioned to operate within its borders.
