The Village of Port Byron is located in the central part of Cayuga County at the junction of Routes
NY-31 and NY-38, approximately 8 miles north of the City of Auburn in upstate New York.
The New York State Thruway passes through the northern portion of the village.
The Village of Port Byron is approximately one square mile with a population of 1,300.
The village is also home to AA Gates Elementary School and Dana West Jr.-Sr. High School.
The department is currently staffed by 6 part-time police officers under the direction of OIC Christopher O'Donovan.
Officers respond to an average of 600 calls for service annually which range from non-criminal incidents to major
incidents including burglary, robbery, or assault complaints. Officers also assist other law enforcement agencies
outside village limits under closest car concept as needed. The New York State Police and Cayuga County Sheriff's
Office cover village calls for service when village officers are not on duty.
All of our professional and dedicated officers are New York State-certified police officers who are trained
throughout the State in the latest law enforcement topics and techniques. Our office is located in the Port
Byron Municipal Building, at 52 Utica Street.
