The community of West Chester rests in the southeast corner of Butler County, and covers approximately thirty-six square miles. The police department was established in 1967 and has grown from a small contingent of officers to a department of 82 sworn police officers and 10 civilian police employees. The department has an authorized strength of 86 sworn officers for 2004.
