Chief of Police Ricky G. Cousins, No. 930
Chief Cousins has been with the Department since 1997. In October 2004, Chief Cousins was promoted from Sergeant after the retirement of Chief L.K. Roark. Prior to joint the Department, he was the Sergeant at the Clover (VA) Police Department. Chief Cousins retired from the US Navy as a Petty Officer 1st Class after 15 years of service. Some of his extensive training includes Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Radar, and Intoxilyzer Operator. All together, Chief Cousins has 24 years of law enforcement and military experience.
Sergeant Brian L. Carr, No. 931
Sgt. Carr joined the Department in 1999 after working for the Chase City, VA Police Department. Sgt. Carr was promoted to Sergeant in October 2004, after the retirement of Chief Roark. Sgt. Carr served 3 years in the US Army and holds an AA in Law Enforcement from Danville Community College. Sgt. Carr is a Virginia DCJS Certified General Instructor and Defensive Tactics Instructor, and frequently teaches at the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. Some of his training includes Reid School of Interrogation, FBI Drug Enforcement, Gang Violence, and Hate Crimes.
Officer John C. Ferguson, No. 932
Off. Ferguson joined the Department in April 2004 and also works part-time for the Lynchburg, VA Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff. Off. Ferguson previously worked for the Liberty University Police Department in Lynchburg and the Carilion Health System Police Department in Roanoke, VA. Off. Ferguson also has 140 credit hours towards his BS in Government from Liberty University. Off. Ferguson is certified by Virginia DCJS as a Civil Process Server/Court Room Security Officer and General Instructor. Some of his training includes Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Gang Violence, Meth Lab Response, Street Crime and Drug Interdiction, and Grant Writing.
