The Tomah VA Police are a small 14 officer Federal Police Agency with three non-sworn employees located on a 172 acre neuro-psychiatric facility in Tomah, WI. The force composition is the Chief, Deputy Chief, Supervisory Police Officer (Watch Commander), Supervisory Physical Security Specialist, Lead Officer (Training Sergeant), 12 full time patrol officers and 9 non-sworn federal employees. The department responds to incidents occurring on site, and searches for and retrieves missing patients within the parameters of their jurisdiction. One public highway bisects the facility and it is open to the public, to include a public golf course on the facility. Facilities at the facility, in addition to the medical, dental, and various outpatient clinics, include a large substance abuse treatment program (narcotics and alcohol), a PTSD program, 4 psychiatric wards, a large homeless Veteran program, and a long term care facility.
