OFC Ervin shows Mrs/ Ueeck's 3rd graders how fingerprinting is done during the 09 field trip visit to visit the police staff, see the police station and the patrol trucks. It was a warm day and kids had fun! The big kids who work for the police department may have had even more fun!

Thermometer -50
Winter is DEF here. It was actually colder than that (about -50)
b/c the thermometer was picking up steam from a heater outlet port
and the ambient heat showes a slightly higher temp.

Accident
Galena Police & Fire working a minor traffic accident in Galena.
Vehicles even in 4WD run off the road and hit snowbanks. Luckily, there
was no damage and no one was injured, but at -45 DEG F it
can be deadly being out in the elements for anytime.

Santa's New Sleigh
Contrary to popular belief, Santa no longer delivers toys by use of
reindeer, elves and sleigh. Now the toys are pre-delivered here in
the North Pole region by a New York Air National Guard C-130
Hercules cargo aircraft. This is because Santa's reindeer were
basically retired in 2001, when PETA got written agreement from Santa
for more rest breaks, hi-protein feed and insulated suits. The nine
original reindeer are now enjoying a cushy retirement at Santa's
summer facility in Florida. Only one volunteer reindeer now pulls
Santa's new lightweight 09 Aero-stream Sleigh on Christmas Eve and
the reindeer's work conditions must be inspected and approved by PETA.
In the wake of this, all of the elves unionized in 2002 and no longer
ride the sleigh or endure the harsh cold. They now work only in the
warm toy factory for wages and schedules similar to all factory
workers. All of Santa's toys are now delivered by US Marines through
the "Toys for Tots" Program, with deliveries made by Leathernecks,
who take toys to prepositioned staging areas. Santa, in his new sleigh
and with one reindeer, comes back through commuities and makes faster
deliveres of toys on Christmas Eve. Santa is seen here in the back of
the cargo bay of the aircraft on the left in red if you look carefully,
as Marines unload toys.
