Avon, Colorado, population 5500 is located nine miles west of Vail, the ski
capital of the USA, along Interstate 70. It is a ski resort community
bordering on the world famous Beaver Creek Resort, home of the championship
ski run, "The Birds of Prey." The 17 member Avon Police Department's
philosophy reflects that of community oriented/problem solving policing and
embraces that philosophy by being an active participant in the community
with activities and programs designed for youth to adults. The town is
experiencing a huge growth rate with the addition of a large shopping center
and over 3000 housing units. The Avon Police Department actively recruits
