May 1, 2006: After coming out executive session which lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes, the Mayor announced to the crowd of about 15 citizens and the entire police department that as of that night the department was being suspended, no cause was provided even when prompted by several citizens both for and against the department.
The Mayor stated that the village needed to work on it's community policing efforts and work better with the Delaware County Sheriff's Department. Chief Fisher stated that there has been no complaints or ill-will with the Sheriff's Department that he has been made aware of. The Chief feels that the Mayor's illegal actions stem from the fact the Mark Wolfe, a former candidate for Sheriff and political rival of Sheriff Al Myers, recent application to join the Ostrander Police Department may have started this activity.
Chief Fisher also believes that recent information brought to his attention that an internet predator recently arrested by his department may be related to an elected official of the village. Chief Fisher plans on forwarding a letter to the Delaware County Prosecutor (David Yost) concerning the new allegations and requesting his office take appropriate action if proven.
