Brookneal Police Department

About Us

The Brookneal Police Department is a fully-trained, professional small town police force. We handle everything from parking complaints to serious felonies, such as drug investigations. We are a 4 Officer Department, with our current rank structure being Chief of Police, Sergeant, and 2 Officers. All of our training is conducted at the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy in Lynchburg, VA. Our Officers carry the Glock Model 21 .45 Caliber handgun, and our fleet consists of 1-1997 and 2-2003 Ford Crown Victoria's and 1-2002 Ford Explorer. We maintain a close working relationship with the Sheriff's Offices of Campbell, Charlotte, and Halifax Counties, as well as the Virginia State Police, Game Commission, and Alcohol Beverage Control.

Some of the general police services we provide to the community are:

1) House and Business Checks: Upon request, Officers will check homes and businesses for problems and disturbances. Property owners will be notified by the Department of any problems.

2) Kid Cafe ID's: Upon request, we will fingerprint, photograph, and make a ID card for children that their parents will have in case of an emergency.

3) Project Childsafe: We will provide free gunlocks to our citizens, to ensure that all guns are left child safe and secure.

4) Vehicle Unlocks: If an Officer is available, he will attempt to unlock a citizens vehicle when they've locked themselves out.

5) Upon request, Officers are availble to speak to Churches, organizations, and groups about crime prevention, personal safety, and other law enforcement topics.

The Brookneal Police Department also participates in the following Crime Prevention Programs:

1) Central Virginia Crimestoppers. Citizens can report criminal activity and knowledge about a crime anonymously. Successfull tips can be rewarded up to $1000. Please call 1-888-798-5900 or visit www.cvcrimestoppers.org

2) Campbell County TRIAD. The Brookneal Police Department has partnered with the Campbell County Sheriff's Office and the Altavista Police Department to provide crime prevention and personal safety programs to the senior citizens of Campbell County.

The Town of Brookneal was founded in 1802 from lands formed after the marriage of John Brook and Sarah Neal. Patrick Henry was referred to Brookneal as, "the garden spot of the world." Henry loved Brookneal so much that he built his last home just outside of town at Red Hill. The Brookneal Area is now home to the Red Hill National Memorial and the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Home. The Town boasts a population of 1,300 people and is located in the southeast corner of Campbell County on the intersection of US Route 501 and State Route 40. The Town borders Halifax and Charlotte Counties, and has long been the center of commerce for Campbell, Charlotte, and Halifax Counties.
