Suspected bank robber apprehended

SHEPHERDSTOWN - Shepherdstown Police Chief David Ransom Jr. has announced that the suspect wanted for robbing a Jefferson Security Bank last Friday has been apprehended.

The department announced that on Monday members of the Shepherdstown Police Department, West Virginia State Police, U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force and the Harpers Ferry Police Department apprehended 49-year-old Mark David Swann, of Harpers Ferry, at his residence.

Swann is charged with bank robbery and was taken to Eastern Regional Jail pending arraignment.

Search on for man who robbed Jefferson Security Bank

SHEPHERDSTOWN - Area law enforcement officials are searching for the suspect in today's robbery of the Jefferson Security Bank, 105 East Washington St. at approximately 1:10 p.m.

The suspect, a white male, approximately 50 to 55 years of age, entered the bank and demanded money. The suspect was wearing a white button-down shirt and tan jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes, as well as a tan hat.

Shepherdstown Police Chief David Ransom confirmed the robbery. Jefferson County Sheriff's Officers were on the scene taking witness statements and scouring neighboring streets aided by the use of canine units.

Ransom indicated the suspect did leave the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The bank remains closed Friday afternoon.
