The South Abington Township Police Dept. is a municipal police agency located in
Northeastern Pennsylvania. Situated on the northern border of the City of Scranton, the SATPD provides
comprehensive police services to a population of over 10,000 township residents, and also contracts
police service to neighboring Clarks Green Borough, having a population of approximately 1,600 persons.
As of Jan. 2001, the SATPD employs nine full-time and nine part-time officers, as well as one full-time
and one part-time clerical employee. The SATPD is widely recognized for its' emphasis on professionalism,
utilizing the latest developments in computer technology and law enforcement equipment. All members receive
regular updated training, and the SATPD is especially noted for strict traffic enforcement throughout its'
area of jurisdiction. "Esquire" magazine once named South Abington Township " one of the ten places in
America not to drive through on New Years' Eve". Major highways passing through South Abington Township
include I-81, Rt.476 (The Pa. Turnpike Northeast Extension), as well as heavily traveled U.S. Rts.6 & 11.
