Historic Shepherdstown, the oldest town in the state of West Virginia,is located in the eastern panhandle county of Jefferson County. Shepherdstown is also home to Shepherd University, a liberal arts university with a population of about 5000 students. The Shepherdstown Police Department serves a population of about 1700 residents as well as the university population around town. The department currently has two officers assigned to bike patrol, a K9 unit, and two officers assigned to the United States Marshal Fugitive Task Force. The department has an Administrative Clerk and a Parking Enforcement Officer. The Shepherdstown Police Department works jointly with Shepherd University Police Department. Community Policing is a high priority for the officers of the Shepherdstown Police Department.
