The Oklahoma State Park Rangers take pride in belonging to the State Park system and we
function in support of the parks and the guests of the parks.
Some of the greatest impact that a Ranger can have on the public is during his or her encounters with
children. This is a priority for our Rangers as it is an opportunity to not only help nurture a love
of the parks and the outdoors but also to provide the child with a positive interaction with a law
enforcement officer. Simply by presenting a child with an approachable and friendly police officer
may very well have a lasting and profound affect.
We also understand that, while we make only a small percentage of the contacts made by law enforcement
in this state each day, we do have the opportunity to make a positive impression on the public.
We believe that this positive interaction with a law enforcement officer can impact the attitude
of those citizens towards law enforcement and potentially affect their interaction with officers
from other agencies in the future.
The Oklahoma State Park Rangers bring several specialties to the public safety community which allow us,
through support of other first responders, to better serve the citizens of Oklahoma. Advanced skills such
as tracking, high angle rope rescue, swift water rescue, wilderness land navigation and remote area
trauma care are examples of our Rangers advanced expertise.
The agency has also progressed rapidly in the past three years to include tablets in the patrol trucks,
advanced GPS, Naloxin, Celox A, and rifles for each Ranger.
Our Rangers, and the work they accomplish day in and day out, both in and out of the public eye are a great
source of pride and inspiration to me personally and a great example for all citizens of this great state.
Finally, I would like to thank all the employees of the Oklahoma State Parks Division, for without them,
Rangers could not succeed in their mission.
Thank you,
Don Blake,
Chief Ranger
